Microsoft Teams, a popular productivity application, experienced another outage on Wednesday evening. This incident caused disruption for enterprises using the North American infrastructure for running Teams, leading to delays and failures in sending and receiving messages.
In response to the issue, Microsoft posted on Twitter, informing users about the incident and directing them to the Service Health Dashboard for more details. The company quickly determined that the problem was specific to some users served through affected infrastructure in North America and took steps to alleviate the impact by routing affected service traffic to healthy infrastructure.
After sending out a second post on Twitter, Microsoft claimed to have resolved the issue within an hour. The company’s service status page currently shows all 365 services in good health.
However, this is not the first time Microsoft 365 has experienced an outage. This incident marks the ninth occurrence in the past eight months. In June, users faced issues with Outlook Web, Teams, OneDrive for Business, and SharePoint for over eight hours. In May, UK users encountered difficulties accessing certain service offerings under Microsoft 365.
In April, Microsoft investigated an issue where certain users were unable to use the search functionality in multiple Microsoft 365 services. Outlook on the Web, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook desktop clients were among the affected services. Additionally, another incident in April prevented users from accessing Microsoft 365 web applications and Teams.
Earlier in the year, Microsoft experienced global outages in both February and January, causing users to lose access to emails and Teams. Furthermore, the company faced a data center outage in Australia last month, which was attributed to staff strength and failed automation.
Microsoft continues to address these outages as they occur, striving to improve the reliability and stability of their services.
