Instagram’s co-founders have been busy expanding their news aggregation platform, Artifact, with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). The latest feature, announced on September 13, is called Links, which allows users to post links and receive a more personalized feed tailored to their interests. At the recent Code Conference, Artifact also unveiled the ability to create posts, transforming the platform into more than just a news reading app. Now, the cofounders have revealed that Artifact will soon enable users to share recommended places.
Initially conceived as a hub for catching up on the latest news, Artifact is now expanding its scope to include users’ favorite shops, restaurants, bars, and more. This will be achieved through the existing posting functionality, which already allows users to create and share posts and images on the platform.
Artifact is a platform powered by AI that learns users’ interests and keeps them informed with relevant information. It uses AI to summarize content, making it easier for users to catch up on news when they only have a few minutes to spare. Additionally, the platform employs AI to rewrite clickbait headlines.
In addition to the new Places feature, Artifact has introduced other updates this month. Users can now create images with generative AI and share them along with their posts. The Safari view in Artifact has also been enhanced, allowing users to access AI summaries both in the app and through the share extension in Safari. To toggle this feature, users can navigate to Artifact Settings and then Browser Settings.
In a post on Threads, Mike Krieger, Instagram’s cofounder and former CTO, shared the news of the updates: “Two fun new updates today in @artifact_news:
1. You can now share Places into our posts tab; a great way to share your favorite new restaurant or spot.
2. Our new Safari view got superpowers — you can now comment, save for later, and use our AI summaries, either within our app or from our Safari share extension.”
These recent updates demonstrate Artifact’s commitment to providing a comprehensive and personalized user experience, thanks to its AI-powered features. With its growing range of capabilities, Artifact aims to stand out among other news aggregation platforms.
