Infected Mid-Day Meals Served at Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal School; Authorities Take Action
In a disturbing incident, a government school in Adampur village, Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh, served meals contaminated with insects to its students during the mid-day lunch. The students immediately rejected the food and reported the issue to the school administration.
However, instead of addressing the problem, the school authorities attempted to suppress the matter and instructed the students to remain silent. Unwilling to accept this response, the students informed their parents, who subsequently created a commotion at the school. They also lodged an official complaint with the district magistrate (DM).
Upon receiving the complaint, the DM took swift action and ordered a thorough investigation. A team from the food department was dispatched to the school to collect samples of the contaminated food. The investigation revealed gross negligence on the part of the school administration, both in the preparation and serving of the mid-day meals.
According to the report, the meals were not subjected to taste-checking before being served. Furthermore, the ingredients used were of poor quality, and there was no designated teacher responsible for managing the mid-day meal scheme. Additionally, it was discovered that the school had failed to maintain and update the meal register since March.
In light of these findings, the school caterers and administration officials were suspended to ensure further accountability for their negligence. The Department of Basic Education also conducted an inspection of the primary school in Adampur village to assess the overall food serving practices.
This incident highlights the importance of stringent monitoring and quality control measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students consuming mid-day meals.
