Country’s Tallest Lord Ganesha Idol Installed in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh

Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh – In a grand celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi, the tallest Lord Ganesha idol in the country has been installed in Visakhapatnam. The idol, named Sri Ananta Panchamukha Maha Ganpati, stands at a towering height of 117 feet in the Lanka Grounds.
Inspired by the Khairatabad Ganesh idol in Hyderabad, which was installed 69 years ago and stood at 63 feet tall, the pandal organizers set out to create the tallest Lord Ganesha idol in the Telugu states.
The magnificent idol was brought to life through the efforts of 26 artisans from West Bengal, led by the Chief artisan Naresh. The construction process began in June, with the earth being dug to a depth of 10 feet to provide a strong base and balance to the idol. The team worked tirelessly and completed the idol just in time for the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
To create this masterpiece, the artisans used one and a half tons of Ganga Matti clay from Kolkata, two tons of clay from a lake near Anakapalli town, along with a significant amount of grass and more than 350 bamboo sticks.
S Ganesh, one of the organizers, spoke to News18 and revealed the challenges they faced in the past. Last year, they had to cancel their Ganesh celebrations due to cracks in an 89-foot idol caused by improper support. This year, they invested around Rs 50 lakh to build a sturdy iron structure that ensured better support for the idol.
Pandit Venkata Harish Sharma explained the symbolism behind the five faces of Lord Ganesha on the 117-foot idol. Each face represents one of the pancha kosha – Annamaya Kosha, Manomaya Kosha, Pranamaya Kosha, Vijnanamaya Kosha, and Anandamaya Kosha.
The installation of this majestic idol attracted a large crowd, eager to offer their devotion to Lord Ganesha. People gathered around, capturing the moment on camera as they admired the enormous creation.
