Microsoft 365 Users Experience Another Outage, Disrupting OneDrive and SharePoint Online
In the latest incident of Microsoft 365 outages this year, enterprise users faced disruptions in their OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online applications on Monday night. The outage was reported at 1:09 AM UTC and lasted for about two hours before being resolved, according to Microsoft’s tweets.
“We’re investigating an issue affecting access to SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business. Further detail can be found in the Microsoft 365 admin center under SP659992 or OD659999,” the company wrote on Twitter. This is part of Microsoft’s efforts to rebrand itself as X.
The outage was also reported by UK-based incident and outage reporting portal Downdetector, which cited individual user reports. This incident marks the eighth occurrence in seven months, as service outages and other issues have continued to plague Microsoft 365 users throughout the year.
In June, users faced issues with Outlook Web, Teams, OneDrive for Business, and SharePoint for over eight hours. In May, UK users experienced issues accessing some service offerings under Microsoft 365. In April, certain users were unable to use the search functionality in multiple Microsoft 365 services, including Outlook on the Web, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook desktop clients. Another incident in April prevented users from accessing Microsoft 365 web applications and Teams.
This is not the first time Microsoft has experienced global outages. In February and January, users were unable to access emails and Teams due to similar outages. In addition to these ongoing issues, Microsoft’s service status page shows that Outlook and Teams are still dealing with a duplicate contact list issue, first reported in March. The next update on this issue is expected on July 28. However, Microsoft claims that new synchronizations are no longer resulting in duplicate contacts following a long-term fix implemented by the company.
Microsoft is currently working on a full cleanup process to address the duplicate contact issue throughout the affected environment. The company aims to have the process completed and applied by the end of August.
It’s clear that these outages and ongoing issues are causing frustration among Microsoft 365 users. As the company continues to tackle these challenges, users are hopeful for a more stable and reliable experience in the future.
